A good rule of thumb
is to pick the chinstrap size that corresponds to your helmet size.
Players with youth sized helmets
generally will wear a S-M chinstrap in either the X-1 series or the Rx series. A youth player who
wears a XS helmet will wear an XS Rx.
A player who wears an adult helmet size S or M will
wear an X-1 series S-M.
A player who wears an adult helmet sized L or bigger will wear a L-XL X-1
series or the X-Dp series.
What style is best for me? Much like choosing a pair of shoes,
choosing the style or shape of the chinstrap cup and foam is a matter of personal preference.
SportStar makes 4 different styles of
chinstrap cup, shown below:
X-1 series uses our
original ergonomically shaped chincup that fits most players. Available in 2 sizes: S-M and L-XL.
This is our most popular chinstrap and it fits most face and chin shapes.
Rx is a lower profile chinstrap available in 3 sizes: XS, M and L-XL. The XS fits like the Adams Pro 25, the M fits like the Adams Pro 50 and the L-XL
fits like the Adams Pro 100.
X-Dp is our new deep fitting
chinstrap that is designed to provide an extra deep fit. Available in L-XL only!
X-SFT is our softcup that delivers a snug comfortable fit. We
do not recommend the softcup as there's no protection on a direct impact to the chin. For players who think they're bullet proof.
Who wears what style?
We have players in every
position from the biggest linemen like DeMarcus Ware and Micheal Oher to the smallest kickers. Here
are some pro quarterbacks and the styles that they have worn:
X-1: Drew Brees X-Dp: Eli Manning
Rx: John Beck SFT: Colt McCoy
Which foam should I choose?
It's all about personal preference, although if your chin is sensitive to rash we
recommend the X-1 series with one of these foams: GX-4, T-Rex Air Flow or the O2 Air Flow.
